Ever since its release in 2019, Netflix’s widely famous Sex Education has risen to immense popularity owing to its progressive plot, brilliant characters, and of course Gillian Anderson (also known for her role in The Crown as Margaret Thatcher). 40 million fans lapped up season 1 of Sex Education with 4 weeks of its release, while in season 2, the show widened its horizon and shed a positive light on the LGBT+ community by introducing asexual, pansexual, and bisexual characters.
Now that Netflix has announced the release date of season 3, fans can’t keep calm. Here’s everything we know about Sex Education Season 3. Read on!
When Will Sex Education Season 3 Release?
After over one and a half years of gap, Netflix finally revealed that Sex Education season 3 will be released on 17 September 2021. Just a couple more months of a wait!! If the production hadn’t been stalled due to the pandemic, the 3rd season would have launched in January 2021, following a similar pattern to seasons 1 and 2.
What’s New in Sex Education Season 3?
The biggest change Sex Education Season 3 will have is the dress code of Moordale High. In the previous two seasons, students were allowed to wear casual clothes, therefore, they could flaunt their style. But, recently released pictures of season 3 show that pupils of Moordale High will be stripped of their style and would have to don uniforms consisting of Plaid Skirt, Blue Shirt, and Grey-Maroon Jacket – all thanks to the new headmistress! (We’ll come back to it in a jiffy). A first look at the image implies that the new headmistress is going to be a stern character, and the students aren’t quite thrilled about wearing a uniform.

Last year, Netflix used its social media account to announce that fans will be seeing 3 new faces in Sex Education Season 3. Jemima Kirke will play Hope, Mooredale alumni, and the new headmistress, who will be replacing the previous headmaster Michael Groff, after the public meltdown in the season 2 finale.
Dua Saleh is joining Sex Education season 3 in their acting debut as Cal, a nonbinary student at Moordale, who is at war with Hope and her new vision for the school.
Jason Isaacs (aka Professor Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter!) will play Peter Groff, ex-headmaster Michael Groff’s more successful and not very modest older brother. He will be staying with his younger brother in the wake of his separation from his wife.
Apart from them, Otis (Asa Butterfield), Maeve (Emma Mackey), Otis’ sex therapist mom Jean (Jillian Anderson), Aimee (Aimee Wood), Eric (Ncuti Gatwa), Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling), and Adam (Connor Swindells), Ola (Patricia Allison) and Mr. Groff (Alistair Petrie) will return in the season 3.

What Will Happen in Sex Education Season 3?
Earlier in June 2021, Asa Butterfield, aka Otis, hinted that season 3 will surprise the fans. He tweeted:
Lemme just say, you lot aren’t ready for season 3, trust me.
— Asa Butterfield (@asabfb) June 8, 2021
He also revealed that season 3 will return from where season 2 left off (i.e. the epic cliffhanger where Otis admitted his feelings for Maeve in a voicemail, which Isaac deletes). In an interview with The Guardian, Butterfield also said, “There’ll be a time-jump since the season two cliffhanger. Otis is back at school but he’s got different things on his plate. He’s grown up a bit and become slightly sassier. But don’t worry, though, he’s still tragically awkward too.”
For those fans who have been freaking about Otis growing a moustache in season 3, Butterfield said, “I can exclusively reveal it’s not real. It’s a stunt ’tache. And thankfully, it doesn’t last the whole season.”
