Imagine sitting in front of the television on a dreary day, pondering what to view. Do you like sitcoms set in the workplace? Surreal musicals, perhaps? Consider a mockumentary-style show or a dramedy that swings more towards the serious end of the comic spectrum. Of course, what we think is humorous is subjective, but these comedy web series will certainly brighten your day.
The Good Place (2016-2020)
If Micheal Shur had a multiverse (due to his innate comedy show variety), The Good Place is the show where they would all meet for a cross-over. Moving away from his template of workplace comedies, The creator dwells into the philosophy of life and death as well as the afterlife.
Eleanor is dead and welcomed into the afterlife (The Good Place) by architect Micheal. This starts her new journey in the afterlife with three other humans on the same path as her. The catch? Eleanor is a bad person; she isn’t supposed to be in the “good” place.
The Good Place is a clever comedy. It includes sleek jabs at humanity, an insanely talented cast and a considerable amount of non-cursing. Watch this for fun and laughable with a dash of emotion.

Seinfeld (1989-1998)
A Friends fan? A big bang theory fan? However, you still have nothing on the OG show that started it all; Seinfeld.
Seinfeld is THE template for all the comedy series in the 90s. I think hard about what the tv series landscape would be like without it.
Modern American 20s try to navigate life in the Big Apple, encountering heartbreaks, situations, disappointment, and fun. Seinfeld is a goldmine of sitcoms that keep you captivated and hooked to the characters.
The comedy is top-notch, the actors are extremely funny, and the writers are clever and witty. However, the show is a little stale for today’s taste. Hence, it’s important to remember it was made waayyyy before these times.

Schitt’s Creek (2015-2020)
Imagine buying a whole town as a joke and then having to live in it. Unfortunately, the Roses do just that. Schitt’s Creek is a Canadian sitcom that garnered much popularity after it got picked up by Netflix.
In this Canadian sitcom starring Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara, a rich family is forced to cut back on their lavish lifestyle, with humorous repercussions. Johnny Rose (Eugene Levy), a wealthy video-store mogul, loses his money when his business manager fails to pay their taxes. Moira( Catherine O’Hara) is a renowned daytime soap star who must relocate to Schitt’s Creek alongside her husband and two spoiled brats.
Schitt’s Creek is funny, however, not in an offensive kind of way. With the show, Dan Levy brings in a normalized perspective to various taboo issues and situations. His iconic line “I look at the wine, not the label” will go down as a master metaphor in television history.

Ted Lasso (2020 – )
Firstly, this show is very new to all the other shows on the list. Nevertheless, Ted Lasso is a testament to what good writing and acting combined can do. Getting frightened to attempt is a lesson. Trying is risky since you may lose a lot of money. But, what good is it if you don’t put your faith out there?
Ted Lasso is a feel-good story about a southern football coach from the United States who is requested to take his coaching skills overseas to teach a team he has never heard of and plays a game (soccer) he has even less knowledge of. It’s a wonderful opportunity for him to bring his optimistic reinforcement coaching technique to the other side of the Atlantic.
An underdog plotline is a great mix of humour and drama, the comedy is lighthearted, and the people are fascinating. The characters and performances are fantastic. Everything about it is wonderful.

Sex Education (2019 – )
With a taboo subject like sex, the comedy is right there if you are willing to find it. Sex Education does that very accurately. It’s not an out and out comedy about teenagers who want to have sex; the characters are subtle and grounded. Unfortunately, if Riverdale creators see this show, they might just get an attack.
The plot features a mother-son combo as they navigate through those awkward discussions. But, of course, Dr Jean Milburn (Gillian Anderson) is a sex therapist, and her offspring Otis (Asa Butterfield) is the child who has to deal with her oppressive impulses at home while also providing sex advice to his buddies in an undercover sex therapy ring.
The series features some of the best character storylines and representations in recent times. It’s subject heavy but never feels like a high dosage of drama or emotions. If you are a fan of subtle comic and emotional gags, you might just like the breakfast club-inspired scene. Stream it on Netflix.

New Girl (2011-2018)
Sometimes all you need to make a comedy goldmine is a girl who is new to town and chooses to live with three guys. That’s it; that’s the basic plotline of New Girl. After that, the show is a proper young adult saga of losing and finding things and people and purpose.
After discovering her boyfriend has been unfaithful to her, Jess (Zooey Deschanel) is forced to share a room among three other males, Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), and Winston (Lamorne Morris). The group becomes closer over the following seven seasons. There are instances of tying the knot, having children, suffering empathetic PMS, and being trapped in Mexico, among many other mishaps.
New Girl doesn’t have a new concept. But the execution of the show and its plot-lines makes it interesting and enjoyable for an easy watch. Besides, who’s to deny that Zooey Deschanel is literally the most adorable and funny human on this planet?

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015 – 2019 )
Some comedies are best because of their not so positive premise. Dark Comedies, if you will. This series is one such masterpiece. Its story is nothing to be laughing on or about. However, the treatment makes it so breezy and easy on the brain.
Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) is abducted as a teenager and survives in an underground bunker with a doomsday cult. Eventually, she gets liberated and is attempting to restart her life. The female is fearless and ready to make the most of her newfound independence. A motley crew of supporting individuals aids her transformation. It doesn’t matter if you’re trying to figure out which vocabulary is outmoded or how to dispatch the conscious bot you think is sleeping with her husband.
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is a classic dark comedy trope. It makes you laugh and then think about why you did it in the next second. A truly enjoyable show on Netflix. It’s a must-watch for all comedy lovers.
